Photo an hour: Feb 21st

Photo an hour posts - I've done one before, and they are quite a challenge, but so fun!
It actually ended up motivating me a lot, because I didn't want to post pictures of school all day, so I ended up working really hard and finishing school early! And also I ended up doing a lot of fun things. I would catch myself doing something boring and think, "I have to find something cool to do for a picture!" so I did!
So yeah. I think I like these. :)

10:00 a.m.
Coffeeeeee. Very important, that.

11:00 a.m.
School pwnage. Here we have math, biology, history and Bible memory.

12:00 p.m.
10 minute school break to photograph the fresh snow! Then back inside for lunch and Dutch.

1:00 p.m.
Business school credit/work: photographing and listing a new item in my brother's etsy shop.
It's a ring made out of lilac wood! Check out those awesome purple markings, yo.

2:00 p.m.
Sewing the ribbons and elastic onto my new Pointe shoes!

3:00 p.m.
Elssa sitting behind me on the desk chair as I finish sewing the second shoe. (See the finished one on the stool behind?)

4:00 p.m.
I realize I'm being boring. *Gasp!* Nothing fun to photograph?!
Heh.

So I hurry quick and grab some watercolors to work on a Dear Person letter I've been meaning to do. Ahhh. A much better 4:00 photo, don't you think?

5:00 p.m.
Finishing touches on the painting.

6:00 p.m.

Put the dog out, watch her bound through the new snow. What a happy girl. :)

7:00 p.m.
Start making supper (nachos!!). We usually eat a bit earlier, but Dad came home late.

8:00 p.m.
Fresh chocolate chip cookies. Warm and gooey. Mmm.

Am I making you salivate yet??
...
Good.
Just don't get any drool on your keyboard.
Cuz that would be gross.

9:00 p.m.
We broke out the slide projector and looked at some old slides! I have never seen some of them before.

The whir and click of the projector, Dad telling stories, me clicking pictures. *Happy sigh*

10:00 p.m.
Watching a live broadcast of the photographers convention that my sister is attending! So. Awesome.

So there you have it! A few snippets of my day.
How was yours?

P.S.
Finished Pointe shoes!
(Of course, I did make one little mistake, so I might fix that later. Might.)

And the finished Dear Person watercolor, because I know you're all dying to see it. :)

I saw her last week on the way to swing dancing.
She was more than adorable.

Dear person: golf club mullets

Seen last month on the way to ballet:

Seen on the way home from Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Possibly the best thing I saw the entire day. :)

Air plant pup!

Guess what??
My Tillandsia air plant is growing a pup!
(Yes, baby air plants really are called pups. Epic, right??)

I just noticed it a couple days ago. I'm kinda surprised I didn't see it sooner, cuz it's already like half and inch long. However ... it does blend in pretty well. So maybe not so surprising after all. :)

Air plants start growing pups after they bloom. Mine bloomed over a year ago, and the pup is just now getting big!

It's still attached to the mother plant. I'll leave it on for a few more months until it's big enough to survive by itself.

Btw, those silverish white "scales" are called trichomes. They protect the plant from too much sun by reflecting light. And they also absorb and conserve water since the plant doesn't have roots! When the leaf is wet, they fill up with water and therefore don't reflect as much light, making the plant look greener. As the trichomes dry out, the plant becomes silvery again! Air plants are so odd ... which is the main reason I like them so much. :)

I am very excited about this pup. Perhaps more than is strictly necessary...
but that's ok. :)

What things are you excited about lately?

Frost, fog, and black & white days.

This week we've had amazing weather.

Bright frost and colorful skies:

Mysterious and lonely fog:

And black and white days.
(Just to clarify, this photo is in color. The day literally looked that black and white.)

I love weather. That the feel of each day can be completely different than the day before. It's amazing.

What's the weather like where you are?

French Manicure cheat

I'm not a super girly girl, so I don't paint my nails much. But I do enjoy it once in a while. And this week was one of those whiles. :)

Colorful French Manicure cheat
(In this case, "cheat" = made easier)

1. Pull a rubber band over your nail as shown in the photos.
2. Paint with a colorful, erm ... color.
3. Pull the rubber band away and hope it worked!
4. Touch up time! Fix any little problems with either extra nail polish, or a bit of nail polish remover on a q-tip.
5. Let dry.
6. Cover all with a clear coat!

The rubber band really helps this go waaay faster. It doesn't make it perfect; you still need to do touch ups. But hey. I've gotten the same results without a rubber band, and it was way harder and way slower.
So, rubber band = win!

Even after touch ups, they ain't perfect. But they're cute enough for me!
Perfect nails are overrated anyway. *wink*

Because grapefruit is better peeled.

The flavor improves.

True story.

Individual cells, swollen with sweet citrus juice. They pull apart form each other as I roll a section around my mouth, smooth, cool, firm. I press my tongue to the roof of my mouth and they burst. Flavor squirts.

Yup, I do love me some grapefruit.
And it's so purty, too!
Check out those fantastic colors! I find them very apeeling. {chuckle}

Abstract.

Have you ever peeled a grapefruit?
