100 posts! And why I love garage sales.

As of now, I have posted 100 times on this blog! Dude. I can hardly believe it. AND I can hardly believe I have 60 followers! This January, I had exactly five followers. One was me. And one was my mom.
Yeaaah ...
When New Years rolled around, I was going to put "Get ten followers" on my New Years resolution list. But then I thought that it would never happen, so I left it out. :)
Thank you for following! You helped blow my wish out of the water!

Anyways, this week I went garage sale-ing with my sis in law. And I found this beauty for $10
Can you guess what's inside??

A 1930's Remington typewriter! The man said it belonged to his grandmother.

At first when I tried typing with it, the keys got stuck half way to the paper. I was pretty sure there was a button that would 'unlock' it. And my sis in law found it! When you slide the button, it lifts the keys up. Sweet, huh?

Close ups of the sliding magic button:

I do so love typewriters. :)
Oh, did I mention that it works? As in, it still has ink on the ribbon and everything! Win!

The sticker says, "To save time is to lengthen life." :)

I love history. Not necessarily the history book kind (which I do like sometimes), but more the daily life of people long ago. The music people listened to, their hair styles and clothes, the machines they used ... life.
It's so strange to think how different life was just a few years ago!

Have you ever used a typewriter?

  1. I remember playing with a modern typewriter that my dad used to have. I haven't seen it in awhile, but I have fond memories of playing with it when I was younger. :)

  4. I am just *barely* old enough to remember typewriters... LOL! I actually took Typing I in high school--- on typewriters. Ours were slightly more techy than your sweet model. I was never too swift on the typewriter though, because I tended to hunt and peck and peek and therefore made too many mistakes. (I have since become better and wiser, thanks to Bill Gates and a lot more practice. : ) What I DO recall about typing was the enormous amount of frustration caused when you made a mistake--- granted, there were widgets to fix minor errors, but any major error in the typing or major editing of content could throw you off for pages and pages of re-typing and renewed opportunities to make other and more mistakes! : S And so, while I love letters of every sort (including typewriters'), truly, a word-processor is the answer to many an anguished typist's prayer! You might be interested to know that a truly good typist back in the day was always in demand on the university campus. When deadlines loomed no one wanted to risk having to retype their whole paper at the last minute! Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Inna. Fun, as usual!

  6. Love it!

Reminds me of an old '50s musictape player (is that even a word?) my dad has. The fun thing is that it comes with at least one tape featuring Oma K, our dads and Andrea back in the '50s / early '60s. I think you'd really like it. So if you ever come to Holland and are interested in hearing it...

    Keep on blogging!

  8. AGH, so jealous! It's gorgeous and you've captured it beautifully. :) You'll have to type something and then take pictures of the finished product. I have always thought nothing is as inspiring as a typewriter. Now to frantically go to every garage sale to find one of my own... ;)

  9. I love the sound of a typewriter - so much better than a computer. I had a type writer when I was younger and had to use the white out to cover up mistakes - what a pain - I certainly enjoy the delete button now

  10. I have used a typewriter. Epic!

And my question: if saving time is lengthening life, why is that you are reverting to typewriters?

  12. Hi, I saw my sister reading your blog and I wanted to comment on this! I found a typewriter (Not as old) in a resale store for 4 dollars!! I LOVE typing on it! (More then a computer!) I like to write stories. I am not sure how old it is but it isn't electric. It came with ink but ran out fast! My sister bought me another ribbon for my birthday! She found one online! Your typewriter is WAY cooler then mine! I am going to collect them but so far I haven't found many!
